We meet from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM (EAT) every Wednesday to discuss ongoing development work, any bug reports, new and existing issues, issue assignments, progress updates, and any other development-related topics.

ODE Weekly Dev Sync - Meeting Recap (Wednesday July 1, 2026)

Before we jump into this week’s agenda, here’s a quick recap of what we covered during our previous Dev Sync last Wednesday (July 1, 2026).

The attendees were Najuna, Jerry, Emil and Noah.

Highlights

  • CI Setup

    • We continued discussions around the CI setup and the practicalities involved in getting it in place.

  • Meeting Links

    • We agreed to determine the most suitable meeting link to use going forward, with the ODE Calendar meeting link being the preferred option.

  • Good First Issues

    • We reviewed the ODE Issues board together.

    • Emil walked through an example of a Good First Issue, covering the implementation of a new question type.

    • We also discussed another issue that Najuna is currently working on as an example of ongoing development. The idea is that Good First Issues can be like a new contributor creating a new question type etc.

  • ODE Desktop & Formulus

    • Emil demonstrated the ODE Desktop to us and especially to Noah and showed how custom applications can run inside Formulus, highlighting how it can significantly improve the development workflow and speed up local development.

  • Internationalization (i18n)

    • Emil showcased the new i18n implementation in Formulus.

    • Formulus now supports English, French, and Portuguese, including creating forms in multiple languages.
      We can add more languages later and we talked about languages such as Swahili, Amharic (vital for projects using Formulus like AnthroCollect) and German.

    • One key takeaway was the importance of providing proper labels for form fields. Labels are translated cleanly, while titles are only used as fallbacks and may not always read naturally in the selected language.

  • Development Workflow

    • Emil discussed the benefits of creating dedicated Cursor workspaces for the ODE repositories, particularly the main ODE project and the docs repository, to improve productivity.

  • Documentation & Tutorials

    • Najuna shared the success of the recent tutorial videos and suggested using the same recording tools and presentation techniques for future meetings, conference talks, and documentation so they can serve as useful references for the community.

ODE Weekly Dev Sync - Meeting Recap (Wednesday July 8, 2026)

Thank you to everyone who joined last week’s ODE Weekly Dev Sync.

Highlights

  • We reviewed the action items from the previous meeting and followed up on their progress.

  • Emil shared a new Formulus issue to display an onboarding QR code in the portal after user creation. We also discussed the possibility of automatically suggesting strong passwords for new users.

  • The Remove --api-version from CLI issue was closed after the CI/CD improvements, while the npm install fails unless components/tokens are built issue was assigned to Misha.

  • Najuna’s PR introducing Likert scale and duration question types was successfully merged.

  • We noted that the Docker/Podman quick-start PR still requires review, and also there were no new documentation PRs.

  • There were no significant updates on the forum, and we discussed ongoing efforts to create more Good First Issues to help onboard new contributors.

  • We also began preparing for the upcoming v1.2.0 release and talked on the topic of ideas for future YouTube tutorials.

Action Items

  • Continue creating and sharing more Good First Issues.

  • Send YouTube tutorial topic suggestions to Najuna.

  • Jerry to prepare the agenda for the AnthroCollect meeting and maintain a list of Core Days discussion topics.

  • Review the Docker/Podman quick-start PR.

  • Establish a regular review process for open PRs, particularly Renovate PRs.

  • Misha and Najuna to draft a release SOP (RELEASE.md) for future releases.

  • Najuna to investigate support for closed-group threads on the forum and provide an update on LinkedIn activity.
